FAQ

  • How do I book a lesson?

Attend an online discovery call. You can book one here.

All new students must go through the onboarding process. This is a discovery call (online video call) using Google Meet. We go over your goals and see if VHVS is a good fit for your needs. Then you will be given access to the booking calendar.

  • How long are discovery calls?

    30 minutes or less.

These appointments usually take around 20 to 30 minutes to complete. I will have questions prepared for you and you can ask me any questions you have during this call.

    Book here.

  • Can I book another discovery call/Google Meet call if I miss the first one?

    No.

As a complimentary service, these appointments cannot be rescheduled for any reason, so please choose your time wisely.

Part of becoming a student of VHVS is keeping to appointment times. These meetings are also a great opportunity to meet me, which makes the first lesson far more comfortable and low stress.

  • How old do I need to be to book singing lessons?

To making bookings: 18 years and above.
To attend lessons: 10 years and above.

You must be at least 18 years of age to book a discovery call for yourself or someone else. If you are booking for your child, please make sure you are in attendance throughout the duration of the call. I am not currently taking students under the age of 10.

  • How much notice do I need to give to cancel or reschedule a lesson?

    24 hours notice.

As much notice as possible is appreciated. 24 hours notice is required in order to cancel or reschedule, or the full lesson fee is paid. Occasionally, exceptions can be made for sickness notified in less than 24 hours, but this is at the discretion of VHVS.

If rescheduling within 24 hours, please do not use the calendar to do so. Please contact me via text first.

  • I can't sing in tune. Can you help me?

    Yes.

Most people can be taught to sing in tune. If pitching is an issue for you, we will begin with pitch retraining, which can take a bit of time. Sometimes pitch issues are actually breath or body tension issues. We will figure out what is holding you back from feeling comfortable singing.

There is absolutely no judgement from me as I’m here to help. I work with singers of all levels and abilities every day.

  • Can I gift a lesson as a Christmas present to someone?

    Yes, but…

They will still have to participate in the onboarding process by going through a discovery call session and accepting the studio policy.

If your gift recipient does not attend the discovery call, they will be unable to book lessons and the lesson fee will not be eligible for a refund.

Thank you for spreading the word about VHVS! :)

  • Can I have singing lessons if I have a vocal injury or a history of voice misuse?

    Usually, but…

It is my professional duty to advise you to have your voice thoroughly checked and cleared by a medical professional prior to beginning singing lessons, but you are not obligated to do so. If you are advised by a medical professional not to engage in singing lessons, then I will not be able to take you on as a student.

By undertaking lessons you agree to disclose any issues that might impact your voice and agree that you have been cleared by a medical professional to do so.

  • My voice hurts after singing. Is that normal?

    No.

If you have any concerns about your voice during or after a lesson, please let me know as soon as you can. Occasionally singing lessons can uncover voice issues that were not as obvious prior, especially if you are new to singing. If you have a history of voice misuse, voice lessons could exacerbate any issues caused by this (especially if I am not informed prior). It can also be caused by lifestyle choices and illness, eg. allergies, dehydration, lack of sleep, talking a lot, TMJ, certain medications, neck tension etc.

If you feel tension, pain or a change in your voice that lasts more than two weeks it is advised to see a medical professional.
